Awareness/Advocacy/Activism
The global burden of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, especially in developing countries already struggling with the devastation of poverty, HIV, and shortage of healthcare workers, is large and escalating. We, as academic orthopedic surgeons, have a moral duty to partner with our fellow surgeons around the world, in hopes of lessening this tragic trend. By collaborating and strengthening the institutions that sustainably build capacity and infrastructure, we can make an impact on this unacceptable disparity. The goals of teaching, training, and research provide a synergistic platform that will allow us to create a more just and healthy world, both here and abroad.
