How you can help IGOT?
“To lessen the burden…”
IGOT (The Institute for Global Orthopedics and Traumatology) was founded with a simple mission statement, but an enormous challenge. The impact of musculoskeletal conditions, be they from congenital, developmental or traumatic origin, are enormous, especially in developing countries already coping with poverty, conflict, malnutrition, HIV/TB/Malaria, and other infectious diseases.
The clinicians and academicians of IGOT have accepted this challenge and taken a different approach, which we believe will be effective and sustainable. We are collaborating with our academic partners abroad and empowering them to strengthen their human capital to solve their own problems. A partial list of past and current activities include:
- Instruction of medical students and orthopedic nurses in Mthatha, South Africa
- Supporting orthopedic research at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda
- Facilitating African academic leaders through educators’and leadership courses
- Forging educational and academic alliances in Nicaragua
- Building a playground in an underserved community of San Francisco
- Providing opportunity and awareness to aspiring global health scholars.
We at IGOT believe there is a moral imperative to act sustainability to lessen the burden of orthopedic conditions. You can help in this work. Your donations will assist us in bringing musculoskeletal care to those who need it most.
